The Netherlands

A beautiful day of riding yesterday, we crossed the border from Germany into the Netherlands; arrived in Apeldoorn around dark for a nice dinner on a patio in the downtown area; and slept in a park. It rained. Things got wet. But we got the tent up and made it out alive.

We're going to Amsterdam today.

Hi guys,
I'm currently planning with some friends a bike trip from Viena to Belgrado, in the summer, and doing some resarch just came across your blog. Really nice this trip of yours!
Anyway, I wanted to ask: how did you get the bikes? did you bring the bikes from the US or did you got them in Europe? If so, wich model and how much was it?
Thanks for any info, we're kind new to this whole cycletourism thing!

Hey, John and Will
I was in Wilmette Bike Shop today and they loved hearing about your trip. They were asking about what kind of press you'd had. Would it be okay with you guys if I shared your story/blog with a couple of Chicago based magazines and maybe Pioneer Press. Let me know what you think.
Love, Mom

In response to Pedro: thanks for checking out the blog. to answer your questions... my brother bought his bike online and i bought my bike from a bike shop in chicago. we brought them on the plane in bike boxes. they are both touring bikes, and there are several companies that make them. Ours are both made by Surly, and the model is the Long Haul Trucker. Touring bikes retail for about 1000USD. Email me if you want more specifics about the bike set up. Lankford.john@gmail.com
